Dainty Lady Fern

Graceful

An extremely finely divided frond with generous spacing between the pinna and pinnule divisions. It shares the vinous skeletal coloration of the Burgundy-stemmed Lady-fern, but is overall more delicate and drooping in habit.
She shares this with some other Ferns from our assortment like the Araiostechia and Adiantum types, these Ferns also look sensitive but are extreme strong, this makes them so interesting.

Origin Japan

The species is native to Japan and Taiwan.
She is hardy to-24°C (zone 6) and can stand some sun but no full sun for many hours. This also depends on the surrounding plants and availability of sufficient water of course. In winter this fern is deciduous.

Better in the garden

The fern is extremely strong and very suitable for gardening, it is less suitable as container plant since watering needs a lot of attention.
If you forget watering once, the fronds will be damaged.
This Lady Fern will stay quite small (40cm-60cm high) and can handle some sun. Very suitable as under planting with shrubs or other higher perennials.

Richard Hayward

The plant hunter

Richard Hayward, a famous British fern collector, has enjoyed ferns ever since he encountered them as a boy scout in South Wales and took them to London as souvenirs. After his retirement he owned a small fern farm in North Wales. He still exchanges spores and plants of rare species with other fern enthusiasts.

"I love ferns because of their diversity in shape, foliage, colour and beauty and their enormous urge to survive."
